Internet Privacy

Postby Guest » Mon Jun 15, 2009 1:32 am

With as much time as people spend online, a lot of information ends up posted here or there. So it gets harder and harder to preserve privacy. And it can be even harder to determine exactly who is responsible for violations on others' privacy.

So my question... or I actually have two, are these:

what would you suggest a person do in the event that any account they have has been compromised? And what kind of accounts are possible to be deleted. For example, if I had more than one myspace account, is there a way I could delete one? Or e-mail accounts?

And secondly, on a more personal note, what would you do if you were quite sure you knew who it was that had used one of your accounts? Specifically if it were someone you thought of as a trustworthy friend or relative?

If I was suppose to answer as anon then my bad but I'm going to post this anyways since i'm too lazy at the moment to log out, post and then long back in...

As far as deleting unwanted or compromised myspace/facebook accounts... the site should have a way to do that. There was a big debate over if facebook would really delete something you wanted to delete but I think now that they have to accept your wishes of removing your content... but i'm fuzzy on those details.... Any site you can make a profile on should have a way of deleting it.

The next answer is the trickier one. I assume that this trusted person is someone you care about (platonic or otherwise) and that you really hurt by that invasion of privacy. Now are you pretty sure that they did it, cause depending on how this is brought up it may damaged the trust part of the relationship on both parts. But if you are sure they did it and you don't like it you need to say something to them. Make sure all your passwords are things they can't guess either. Let them know how much it bothered you that they did that. Then they will either discuss and clear the air like an adult or possibly start a fight. Just be prepared for either. I hope you can work things out with this person but understand if the trust isn't there anymore.
I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing!

If your account has been compromised it is a very simple procedure, (considering the fact I hack accounts for shear pleasure)

1. Change your password, and icnrease the strength of such password.
2.Make a new Email with no refrence to the old one
3.Switch your Email to the new one.
4. Enjoy
